5 Ways to Reignite Sexual Confidence

Hormones can be total divas. When estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone start taking a nosedive, our libido often tags along for the ride. A University of Michigan poll supported by AARP found that 28% of women say menopause is cramping their sex life. And let’s be honest—when insomnia, weight gain, hot flashes, mood swings, and UTIs are crashing the party, it’s hard to feel like your best, sexiest self.

It’s like a domino effect: You’re not sleeping, you're not feeling great about your body, and you’re overheating like a toaster. Where’s the energy (or interest) for intimacy in all that? Totally fair.

And there’s more. According to a National Institutes of Health study that followed 2,435 women going through the menopausal transition, vaginal dryness jumped from 19.4% in women aged 42–53 to 34% after age 57. Thinning vaginal walls can make sex uncomfortable or even painful—and let’s face it, no one wants to RSVP “yes” to an experience that feels awkward or unpleasant.

But here’s the good news: There are so many things you can do to bring joy, confidence, and connection back into your sex life.

Here’s Your Feel-Good Game Plan:

Talk It Out With Your Partner
Communication is sexy! Let them know how you’re feeling—emotionally and physically. And yes, lube is non-negotiable. Make it fun, try a few, and turn it into a little adventure together.

Chat With Your Health Care Provider
It’s time to explore your options. Hormone therapy—including estradiol and even topical testosterone—is on the table. Yes, you can use testosterone, and if your provider says otherwise, it's time to find one who knows the latest science.

Consider Couples Counseling
Sometimes, it helps to have a space where you can both feel heard and supported. A skilled therapist can guide you in building connection, understanding needs, and reigniting intimacy.

Play with Gottman Cards
Think of them as your relationship cheat codes. These handy cards help couples build friendship, foster a positive perspective, and talk openly (and comfortably!) about sex and intimacy.

Lube Slip-n-slide, baby. There are hundreds on the market that will change your sex life.

Menopause might be part of the journey—but your spark, sensuality, and sense of fun don’t have to fade. You’ve got options, support, and a whole lot of living (and loving!) ahead.

Let’s make this chapter fabulous.
